These fellows are the larrikins of the parrot family in Australia and among the largest. They usually mate for life,so
you will nearly always see a pair together.However, you will also see large flocks of them with perhaps a dozen or 20 or 30
birds.Its in the large flocks that they are at their most raucous. Their screeching calls to each other can be heard up to
a kilometre away. They are great show-offs,performing acrobatics on branches and frequently displaying
the yellow comb on their head. Like all the parrot family they are very gregarious and are friendly and confident with
human beings. In captivity they can be taught to talk and repeat a number of whole phrases as they are great mimics.
Along with galahs and budgerigars,they are the most endearing of the Australian parrots.
